Pilgrim Badges

Pilgrim badges were sold in the medieval period as souvenirs of pilgrimage. All of the badges below are accurate copies of surviving pewter artefacts. For information on the history of pilgrim badges please refer to the ‘History’ section of the website. Devotional badges are also included in this section.

Crucifix pendants or badges are often associated with one of Europe’s many miraculous Roods such as Boxley Abbey or the Cross of Neath in St. Georges Chapel. However, this crucifix pendant, the original of which was found in the River Seine in Paris, is likely to have been a general devotional item rather than relating to any specific shrine or relic.

Original found in France.

14th- 15th century.

25x 39mm.

This item is supplied with a silver plated chain as standard. If requested we can supply it with a black or natural leather thong at the same price. Please note this on your order if required
