Price: £4.00

The heraldic Griffin has the forequarters of an eagle joined to the hindquarters of a lion. The Griffin was favoured as a device by King Edward III and was also used by the Montague Earls of Salisbury. Pewter griffin badges such as this example are most likely to have been worn as symbols of allegiance by followers of the Montague family.

A number of variants of this badge, datable to the 15th century, have been found to date. The original on which this replica is based was found in London.
